The moment we've all been waiting for! Today, Monday, May 18th (Victoria Day), we reach the grand finale of Cumberland's historic 138th Annual May Days Celebrations.
Get ready for a day packed with centennial traditions, family fun, pageantry, and community pride at the park! 🌲✨ Here is your official holiday Monday schedule:
🥳 MONDAY EVENT SCHEDULE
10:00 AM – 🎈 The 138th Annual May Day Parade! 🎈
The signature event of the weekend kicks off down Dunsmuir Avenue! Keep an eye out for local fire trucks, community floats, and the Cumberland Community Forest Society’s biodiversity showcase—featuring locals dressed as your favorite forest creatures! 🐻🦉
10:00 AM – 3:00 PM – 🎪 Family Fun Zone (@ Cumberland Village Park) 🎪
Bring the kids down for a 4H Petting Zoo, inflatable "Bounce-a-Rama" structures, train rides, and tasty local food vendors!
11:00 AM – 👑 Crowning of the May Queen (@ Village Park Main Stage) 👑
Witness Cumberland history at the official pageantry crowning ceremony.
11:30 AM – 🎀 Traditional Maypole Dance 🎀
A beautiful 100+ year local tradition! Watch community children perform the intricate ribbon dance around the Maypole.
12:00 PM – 🚲 Coal Hills BMX Races – High-energy competitive racing begins at the local track!
12:00 PM – 🎶 Mainstage Family Entertainment – Live music and regional performers take over the outdoor park stage.
1:00 PM – 🎀 Community Maypole Invitation – Adults and past Maypole dancers are invited up to the park stage to see if you've still got the moves!
1:00 PM – 🏃♂️ Children’s Fun Track Races – Organized foot races for kids on the park field.
1:30 PM – 🎟️ Children's Bicycle Draw & Raffles – Free youth raffle giveaways happening at the main stage!
🚌 LOGISTICAL & TRANSIT INFO (Read before you leave!)
FREE Public Transit! 🎉 Leave the car at home! BC Transit and the Comox Valley Regional District are offering FREE transit across all local routes today. The #2 Cumberland route will operate on a modified Saturday schedule to shuttle you from Courtenay right into the heart of downtown Cumberland.
Road Closures: 🛑 Dunsmuir Avenue will be completely closed to vehicle traffic from 7:00 AM to 11:11 AM between Egremont Road and Sixth Street for the parade. Plan your routes accordingly!
